Omexom Norway brings real-time fleet visibility to grid operators with GSFleet

Omexom Norway is a turnkey energy contractor delivering infrastructure and maintenance across the entire energy value chain, from where power is produced to the wall of the building where it’s used. Part of the Vinci Energies Norway group, Omexom’s technicians and site managers work daily across grid services, road and tunnel lighting, and e-mobility installations.
How a turnkey energy contractor turned its fleet platform into a service its grid operator customers log into directly.
What Omexom Norway delivers, every day across the country, is operational reliability for the power grid. Their technicians and site managers are on planned jobs during the day and on call when faults occur, often outside working hours. Knowing where every vehicle is, and which technician is available to take the next assignment, isn’t a back-office concern. It’s the difference between meeting a customer’s emergency response window and missing it.
“For our customers, it is critically important that our employees can indicate whether they are available in a fault or crisis situation, and that our customers know where the resources are located.”
Per Skofteland, Operations and Procurement Coordinator, Omexom Norway
The challenge: real-time fleet visibility for critical infrastructure response
Omexom’s grid operator customers don’t just hire a contractor. They depend on a coordinated emergency response capability. When a fault occurs on the network, operators need to know, immediately, which Omexom resources are free, where those resources are located, and how quickly they can be deployed.
That kind of visibility can’t live on a spreadsheet or in a phone tree. It has to live in a system that both Omexom and its customers can act on, in real time.
The previous setup: manual mileage logging and limited operational insight
Before 2015, Omexom used a competing fleet management provider without electronic mileage logging. The gap was filled with a manual workaround through their leasing partner Autolease, where drivers typed in kilometers at the fuel pump.
It worked, but it created two problems. Tax-related documentation took more effort than it should have. And the system gave Omexom’s customers no live operational visibility at all.
In 2015, Omexom went out to tender. Price was the most important factor in switching suppliers. But during the evaluation, GSFleet’s “Buzzer,” a small piece of in-vehicle hardware that activates the driver and connects them to the specific vehicle they’re using, stood out as a meaningful operational advantage. In a fleet where the same van might be driven by different technicians from one shift to the next, clean driver-to-vehicle assignment matters.
The solution: GSFleet Fleet Management, with shared visibility for customers
Internally, the platform handles the work that any modern fleet operation needs: tax-aligned documentation, reporting on benefit taxation for private and work commute trips, and a monthly handoff to payroll that no longer requires manual reconciliation.
Externally, the more strategic use case has emerged: Omexom’s grid operator customers log into the fleet management view themselves. They can see, in real time, which Omexom resources are free and where those resources are. The platform runs Omexom’s operations and gives Omexom’s customers what they need to coordinate response on their own side.
“We use FleetSystem so that our company can be part of our customers’ emergency response arrangement.”
The results: cleaner reporting, faster response coordination, stronger customer trust
Ten years in, the impact of GSFleet at Omexom shows up in three places.
Cleaner tax and payroll reporting. GSFleet has simplified everyday life in relation to the Norwegian tax authorities. Documentation is stronger, follow-up is easier, and benefit taxation for private and work commute trips is reported to payroll every month with no manual reconciliation drama.
Faster response in fault situations. Omexom can take on assignments in fault situations directly through the platform, with the right resources identified and dispatched without delay.
A platform their customers rely on. For grid operators who actively use the fleet management overview, identifying who is free and where they are has become quick and simple. The fleet view isn’t just an internal tool. It’s part of how Omexom proves operational readiness to the customers who count on them.
“It is important to us to have suppliers that understand our needs in connection with assignments to the power and energy industry.”
Response delivers a long-requested capability: the ability for users to change their availability status directly from a mobile app, in the moment, from wherever they happen to be. Omexom’s users are now testing it in real operational conditions.
What Omexom is looking for from the pilot is a simpler everyday experience for end users when their status changes. The bigger prize sits on the customer side: when a fault occurs and a grid operator needs to identify and deploy the right resource, Response is designed to make that identification faster and clearer.
Omexom plans to continue using GSFleet across the services they rely on today, and stays open to new functionality as it becomes available.
By using GSFleet Fleet Management to coordinate technicians and vehicles, and by piloting GSFleet Response to bring mobile status changes into the field, Omexom Norway has built an operational layer that serves both its own teams and the grid operator customers who depend on them.
